Visual Tree Assessments BS:3998/2010

Under the occupiers liability Act 1957 and 1984 and the Highways Act 1980, land owners have a duty to take reasonable steps to ensure their trees do not pose an excessive risk to the public.

Eryri Arboriculture Ltd. and consultancy offer Visual Tree Assessment Surveys of risk posed to people and property. The survey is carried out based on knowledge of tree species, condition, age and location and recommendations provided are in line with BS 3998

Reports cover Tree Preservation Order (TPO) applications, Conservation area applications and SSSI Assents

In some instances a VTA may not be sufficient as it is carried out from ground level. Eryri Arboriculture Ltd. can arrange for a climbing inspection and further investigative techniques such as tomographic decay detection

Our Projects

A local housing organisation asked Eryri Arboriculture Ltd. and Consultancy to carry out a large-scale tree condition survey that included over 500 of their owned sites across North West Wales. They wanted to be able to efficiently identify tree hazards and manage their risk in relation to health and safety. Eryri Arboriculture Ltd. and consultancy provided GIS data of the identified sites. Trees were plotted and colour coded according to overall condition and risk. Re-plants were also added as a separate map layer in order to improve amenity, diversity and to provide carbon offset where possible.  The housing organisation were able to manage and filter data using the EXCEL spreadsheet presented in the report enabling them to quickly produce tree work tender documents for tree work contractors and maintenance teams. The interactive mapping system loaded to contractor and management mobile devices allowed easy location finding and the ability to follow tree contractor progress over multiple locations.

Ash Die Back Surveys

Ash Die Back Disease (ADB- Callarah Fraxinea) Is a recent aggressive air bourne disease that is attacking our native Ash with serious consequences to health , safety and ecology.

Due to the prevalence, progressive and ever evolving nature of the disease it is necessary to undertake Ash only visual tree assessments particularly in relation to large infrastructure , roads, footpaths and building assets.

Early identification and management of the disease can help to mitigate risk posed to the public and property whilst ensuring that preservation of Ash stock can be maintained for the future.

Our Projects

Eryri Arboriculture Ltd. has worked closely with councils in Anglesey and Gwynedd to formulate a methodology to efficiently survey Ash trees on A roads , B roads, parks and gardens under council management.   Specialist tree contractors were able  to manage  and where possible to veteranize Ash trees with notable risk efficiently. Methodology and efficiency is reviewed annually ensuring value for money.
